Church Volunteers Duties and Responsebilities
In Brief
Altar Guild Members
.This involves:
Washing and pressing altar linens in accordance with special guidelines.
Arranging flowers in vases for the sanctuary shelves (and other for the church as necessary)
Setting up the Pascal Candle for special feast days such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas and other special occasions such as baptisms.
Clear the alter and wash the sacred vessels after Eucharist services.
Keep track of supplies (e.g. bread, wine and candles) to make sure that we don not run low or run out.
Attend bi-monthly alter guild meetings to organize schedule and discuss additional requirements for the festival days when all alter guild members turn out to help decorate the church and prepare the sanctuary for worship.
Caledonia Times Reporter
Liaison with "Debby Shaw," diocesan secretary-treasurer, for Caledonia Times. Canvasses parish members for story ideas, articles and photographs to be published at Caledonia Times.
Crucifer
Carries the cross in procession up the aisle at the start of the service and back down the aisle at the end of the service. The priest processes behind.
Processes the gospel book down the aisle and holds it so that the priest can read from it, returning the book to the altar at the end of the gospel reading.
If there is no server, the crucifer takes the alms plate from the credence table and receives the offering, placing it on the altar after the prayer over the gifts has been said.
Deanery Representative
Attends deanery meetings with the rector, when meetings are called.
Envelope Secretary
Maintains accurate records of all financial and gift-in-kind offerings made to the church.
Reports monthly offerings to the Church committee.
Mails quarterly statements and income tax receipts to contributors.
Church Committee Member-at-large
Attends monthly church committee meetings.
Participates in Church Committee decision making.
Recording Secretary
Records minutes of church committee meetings each month.
Makes copies of minutes as soon as possible following the meeting and distributes to church committee members.
Keeps copies of all church committee handouts to be returned to the church office for the archives at the end of the year.
Server
Lights the altar Candles before the service begins and puts them out at the last hymn.
Assists the priest at the alter during Eucharist, providing the priest with the ciborium (containing bread wafers}, wine and waters, so the priest can prepare the altar for the Eucharist.
Assist the priest with ablutions when communion has been administered to who are to received it.
Licensed servers help administer the sacraments.
Carries out crucifier duties in the absence of a crucifier.
Sides Person.
Takes up collection at the time of offertory.
Counts offering and any fundraising moneys and makes up bank deposit.
Counts and records number of people in attendance at the service, noting the number who do not receive communion on communion Sunday's.
Helps to count the offerings at the end of the service.
Warden Duties:
Worship regularly
Meet regularly with incumbent to plan Church Committee agenda
Carry out tasks assigned by the incumbent or Church Committee (may include advertising, Church supplies , etc)
Provision, care, maintenance of furnishings and equipment of worship, education and other functions.
Ensure care and maintenance of inventory of parish property.
Ensure Sunday count for worship is accurately kept.
Ensure all parish activities or properly recorded.
Report regularly to Church Committee, activities and finances.
Supervise the creation of Parish Goals and strategy to achieve them (with the incumbent and Church Committee)
Assist committee chairs as requested.
Responsibility (along with incumbent) for preparations for the annual or other congregational meetings.
Liaison with parish groups, Diocesan Regional Council, other parishes.
Ensure Federal Registered Charity Info, Form T3010 is submitted on time. (available on line)
Represent parish on Diocesan budget matters.
